Balasaheb Mulik। Daund : A speeding ambulance carrying a patient from Renapur in Latur district to Sassoon Hospital in Pune rammed into a container truck parked along the highway, leaving a grandfather and his grandson dead. The fatal accident occurred around 4:00 AM on Sunday near Venkatesh Petroleum Pump in the Kedgaon area of Daund Tehsil on the Solapur-Pune National Highway.
The deceased have been identified as Shetiba Vadji Mudholkar (70) and his grandson Devanand Suresh Mudholkar (17), both residents of Manjra in Latur district.
According to Police Inspector Santosh Tasgaonkar of Yavat Police Station, Devanand had suffered a hip fracture and was being rushed in the ambulance to Sassoon Hospital in Pune for surgery. The ambulance driver, Omkar Antram Kanse (a resident of Renapur, Latur), was driving at high speed. As the vehicle reached the Kedgaon area, the driver lost control due to speeding, reckless driving, and disregard for traffic rules, crashing heavily into the rear of a container truck (MH 23 AU 1817) parked by the roadside.
Both Shetiba Mudholkar and Devanand Mudholkar died on the spot in the collision. Following a complaint filed by Sachin Suresh Mudholkar, the Yavat Police registered a case against the ambulance driver, Omkar Antram Kanse.
