Sanjay Bhise। Baramati: A dedicated memorial center celebrating the contributions and teachings of iconic visionary leaders—including a statue of Lord Buddha—is set to be established on the premises of Vidya Pratishthan. Senior leader Sharad Pawar announced on Tuesday that the management is planning to inaugurate the facility on October 16, coinciding with the foundation day of Vidya Pratishthan, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The memorial facility will feature custom portraits of prominent historical figures created by renowned artists. Honored luminaries will include Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar, Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad, Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule, Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe, Yashwantrao Chavan, and Shardabai Pawar. Comprehensive information detailing their life journeys and societal contributions will be made accessible to guide visiting students and citizens.
Stepwells Inspired by Ahilyadevi Holkar’s Legacy
Drawing inspiration from Ahilyadevi Holkar’s historical efforts in constructing stepwells (baravs), wells, and public water stations across the country, Pawar proposed building traditional stepwells in dryland regions as a sustainable water conservation measure for drought-prone areas.
During the event, Pawar noticed an error while female activists were reading informational material on Ahilyadevi Holkar’s life, emphasizing that historical references and details must remain completely accurate when presenting the achievements of iconic figures. Expressing confidence in the initiative, Pawar highlighted that the memorial will play a pivotal role in passing on the values and legacies of these great icons to future generations.
