Indapur : Following a call from the State Government Employees Central Organization, Maharashtra, an indefinite strike has commenced as of April 21, 2026, to protest various long-pending demands. A significant number of employees from the Revenue Department across the Pune division and Indapur Tehsil have joined the movement. The strike saw participation from all cadres, including promoted Naib Tehsildars, Assistant Revenue Officers, Revenue Assistants, drivers, peons, and Kotwals. The protesting employees submitted a detailed memorandum of their demands to Indapur Tehsildar Jivan Bansode.
Government Discontent and Support from Teachers
The movement has gained momentum as government and semi-government teachers, along with non-teaching staff, have declared their full support by halting work. Employee unions have accused the government of maintaining an indifferent and stubborn stance toward their pressing issues. According to the organizations, the administration is not even providing time for discussions, leading to widespread resentment among the workforce. This deadlock has resulted in a complete standstill of administrative work, leaving government offices in the Tehsil deserted.
Key Demands and Future Course of Action
The primary demands of the employees and teachers include the immediate issuance of a detailed notification regarding the Revised National Pension Scheme and the creation of a platform for bi-monthly dialogues with the Chief Minister. Additionally, they are demanding the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for teachers appointed on a non-aided or partially aided basis before November 1, 2005, who later transitioned to 100% aided status.
The protesters are also calling for the immediate removal of the ban on recruiting Class IV employees and drivers. The unions have issued a clear warning: if the government fails to take these years-old pending demands seriously, the agitation will be intensified in the coming days.
