Pune : The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Green Products and Services (GreenPro) Council successfully organised the 9th edition of the GreenPro Summit 2026 under the theme “Green Products Driving Decarbonisation in Value Chains.” Held at The Westin in Pune, the two-day summit served as a national platform bringing together policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, sustainability experts, and product innovators. The gathering aimed to deliberate on accelerating India’s transition toward low-carbon, resource-efficient, and circular value chains, showcasing how sustainable manufacturing and collaborative partnerships can reduce embodied carbon to strengthen the nation’s Net Zero ambitions.

Focus on Sustainable Value Chains and Key Deliberations

Day 1 of the summit highlighted the growing importance of sustainable procurement, green product certification, lifecycle thinking, and responsible manufacturing. Discussions revolved around driving decarbonisation across automotive supply chains, developing net-zero and resource-positive buildings, and exploring global mechanisms to accelerate decarbonisation roadmaps. The conversations spanned the entire lifecycle across various sectors, covering raw material sourcing, product design, logistics, construction, consumption, and end-of-life management.

Leadership Recognition and Industry Honors

The inaugural session featured distinguished leaders including Shri Deepak Govindrao Mhaisekar, Chairman of the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority, Government of Maharashtra; Mr. Kamal Bali, Chairman of the Green Products and Services Council and President & Managing Director of Volvo Group India Pvt Ltd; Mr. Milon K Nag, Deputy Chairman of CII Western Region; Dr. Poorva Keskar, Director at Vke Environmental; Mr. K S Venkatagiri, Chair of Global Ecolabelling Network & Executive Director at CII GBC; and Mr. S Karthikeyan, Executive Director at IGBC, GreenPro & CII CIES. During the event, TVS Motor Company was recognized for its leadership in green supply chain management for OEMs, while Brakes India Private Limited Foundry Division and Lumax Industries Limited were honored as green champions. Additionally, the report titled “Decarbonisation of the Kolhapur Foundry Cluster – A GreenPro Initiative Report” was launched to acknowledge collective efforts in sustainable manufacturing.

Key Insights from Industry Leaders

Delivering the keynote address, Shri Deepak Govindrao Mhaisekar emphasized that development and sustainability must proceed together, noting that India has immense potential to achieve carbon neutrality through energy efficiency and lifecycle-based environmental management. Mr. Kamal Bali highlighted the defining nature of the ecological transition, stating that early adoption of green technologies and collaborative partnerships will determine future industrial competitiveness. Mr. K S Venkatagiri noted from a global perspective that sustainability is shifting from a compliance requirement to a core business imperative, offering Indian manufacturers a massive opportunity to lead global markets. Highlighting GreenPro’s impact, Mr. S Karthikeyan shared that the council has certified over 15,800 eco-labelled products from more than 810 companies across 54 categories, underscoring the industrial shift from basic green initiatives toward credible low-carbon manufacturing.
