Pune: Overcoming torrential rains and severe flooding, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) personnel worked tirelessly through the night to successfully restore the disrupted power supply to Yelwadi and Sangurdi villages.

The main electricity poles connecting the two villages, which fall under the Chakan MIDC subdivision, were completely washed away by fierce flood currents. This had led to a total blackout in both areas. Upon receiving info about the crisis, Chakan MIDC subdivision Engineer Prakash Shelke, alongside Vasuli Branch Engineer Pramod Jadhav and their technical team, rushed to the site to initiate emergency repairs.

Continuous heavy downpours and thick accumulation of mud made the terrain impassable, preventing MSEDCL service vehicles from reaching the breakdown site. Refusing to yield to these severe conditions, the dedicated crew manually carried new electricity poles and other heavy engineering equipment on their shoulders across the treacherous landscape.

Working on a war footing under the cover of darkness, surrounded by rain and deep mud, the team persisted through the night to finish the complex repair work. Thanks to their prompt action and relentless efforts, the power supply to Yelwadi and Sangurdi was safely restored. Pune Zone Chief Engineer Sunil Kakade, Superintendent Engineer Suresh Sawairam, and Executive Engineer Keshav Kalumali highly commended the staff for fulfilling their duties under such testing conditions.

Landslide Knocks Out Power Across Nine Villages in Panshet

In a separate severe weather incident, a massive landslide occurred at Ghodkhal under the Panshet branch. The natural disaster completely buried the local Boralkar transformer and its connected distribution lines under a mountain of mud and debris. The landslide also blocked the main thoroughfare, cutting off transportation routes and creating immense logistical challenges for restoration teams.

Consequently, nine villages located beyond Kashedi village—Ghodkhal, Gondekhal, Dapasare, Kurtavadi Ghol, Tekpole, Maangaon, Khanu, Chandar, and Garjaiwadi—are completely without electricity. Roughly 350 consumers in this remote belt are currently in the dark, but an MSEDCL repair squad stands fully prepared to begin restoration work on a war footing the moment the road is cleared.

Tamhini Landslide Shatters Grid Infrastructure, Leaving Hundreds in the Dark

Another devastating landslide struck the Dawadi area during the afternoon hours along the 11 KV Mulshi Tamhini feeder line. A massive section of the hillside collapsed, washing debris directly into the backwaters. The landslide caused catastrophic damage to MSEDCL infrastructure, completely burying 15 high-tension poles, 10 low-tension poles, and a transformer setup under heavy mud.

This damage has plunged six local villages into darkness, disrupting power supply for 402 consumers, including 375 domestic, 25 commercial, and 2 industrial connections. Mulshi Executive Engineer Devidas Baikar stated that ongoing heavy rainfall and the vast accumulation of landslide debris are currently posing severe limitations on the speed of the restoration operations.
