Pune : The highly anticipated Baramati Municipal Council election results have confirmed that the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) remains the dominant political force in its home bastion. The party successfully prevented major rivals such as the BJP, Congress, and the Shinde-led Shiv Sena from opening their accounts in terms of overall party blocks. In the direct election for the post of Municipal President, NCP candidate Sadashiv Satav secured a landslide victory with a massive margin of 34,000 votes. Out of the 41 total seats contested, the NCP had already secured 8 seats unopposed before polling began. Following the final count, the party maintained its grip on the council, leaving only 6 seats for candidates from other parties and independent groups.

The Rise of Giant Killers and Notable Upsets

While the NCP maintained its overall majority, the election produced several shocking results that disrupted traditional political calculations. Despite the party’s broad success, it faced defeats in 6 specific seats where Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Rashtriya Samaj Paksha (RSP), and Independent candidates emerged as “giant killers.” The most significant upset occurred in the ward where Jitendra Gujar, brother of senior NCP leader Kiran Gujar, was defeated by a young challenger, Yashpal Pote. This particular race had drawn the attention of the entire city and the result sent shockwaves through the local political establishment.

Key Defeats for High-Profile Candidates

The NCP Ajit Pawar faction faced further setbacks as several of its prominent office-bearers lost their contests. Anita Gaikwad, the party’s City Women’s President, suffered a major defeat at the hands of Independent candidate Manisha Sandeep Bankar. In Ward 14, another significant upset took place when Sanghamitra Kaluram Chaudhary, a young candidate from the Bahujan Samaj Party, defeated the NCP’s Swati Appasaheb Ahivale. Additionally, Aarti Shendge, representing the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar faction), managed to mark her party’s presence by winning her seat. Other notable victors who challenged the NCP’s dominance included Vanita Amol Satkar of the RSP and Independent candidate Nilesh Ingule.
