Substandard Cement Work in Malthan

Pune: In a major case of administrative negligence, the newly constructed cement road at Rehab-Yevale Basti in Malthan (Daund tehsil) has disintegrated shortly after completion. Despite an allocation of ₹14 lakh by MLA Rahul Kul for the project, the road is now covered in potholes, making it nearly impossible for residents to use.

Severe Irregularities in Construction

Local residents have accused the contractor of extreme negligence and poor craftsmanship. The condition of the road is so dire that even pedestrians struggle to navigate it, let alone two-wheelers or four-wheelers.

It appears that a minimal amount of cement was used, causing the surface to peel off almost immediately.  A Public Works Department (PWD) board at the site lists the contractor as Anil Bhimrao Jadhav, but critical details such as the source of funding, total road length, and project timeline are missing. Citizens allege the work was carried out without following the approved budget or engineering standards.

Outrage Over Official Inaction

The Village Panchayat officials had previously registered a formal complaint with the PWD. Although officials visited the site for an inspection, no strict action has been taken against the contractor so far. This delay has sparked rumors of a possible nexus between the department and the contractor. Residents are now demanding that the contractor be blacklisted immediately. The road be completely reconstructed as per the original technical standards.Action be taken against the negligent supervising officers.

“The contractor has been directed to stop work for now and has been instructed to redo the construction strictly according to the original estimates and standards.” — Swapnil Tambe, Section Engineer, Public Works Department (PWD)
