Pune: A heartbreaking incident occurred on Monday morning (December 15) in Paragaon-Mangrul, Junnar Taluka, where an eight-year-old boy was tragically killed in a leopard attack.
The deceased child has been identified as Rohit Babu Kapre (Age 8). Rohit’s parents had come from Dhamansai, Roha Taluka, for onion harvesting work. The family was temporarily residing in a makeshift settlement in the Paragaon area.
The leopard, which was reportedly lying in wait in a sugarcane field, suddenly attacked Rohit and dragged him into the dense crop. Women laborers immediately rushed into the sugarcane field and managed to rescue the boy from the leopard’s clutches.
He was taken to a private hospital in Paragaon for treatment, but he was declared dead before receiving medical aid, according to former Sarpanch Sambhajisheth Chavan.
The Junnar Forest Department has visited the scene and completed the panchanama (on-site inspection report). The incident has sparked anger among villagers and the surrounding community. Fear has also spread among the laborers who have come to the area for onion harvesting work.
