Pune : Renowned diabetes specialist Dr. Chittaranjan Yajnik stated that the increasing incidence of diabetes in the country necessitates a more stringent focus on girls’ health from childhood.
Dr. Yajnik was speaking as the chief guest during the 34th Annual Conference organized by the Pune Obstetric and Gynaecological Society (POGS) at Hotel Sheraton Grand. The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including famous gynaecologist Dr. Savita Mehendale, actor Om Bhutkar, POGS President Dr. Manish Machave, and Vice President Dr. Vaishali Chavan. During the conference, Dr. Sanjay Gupte, a well-known gynaecologist from the city, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Pune Obstetric and Gynaecological Society. Doctors working in the field of gynaecology were also felicitated.
Considering the growing threat of diabetes, Dr. Yajnik emphasized the need to pay greater attention to the health of girls. He noted that while diabetes is, to some extent, hereditary, recent times have seen changes in its nature due to lifestyle modifications. He urged gynaecologists to view this problem with increased seriousness.
Dr. Sanjay Gupte, while accepting the honor, advised young doctors to learn continuously and achieve great success. He stated that it is a responsibility to take care of girls’ health given the escalating problem of diabetes. Dr. Gupte acknowledged the significant contributions of his teachers and colleagues in his work so far, adding that he will strive to do even better work in the future.
Actor Om Bhutkar expressed his enduring respect for the medical profession, highlighting the great work done by doctors for society. Bhutkar also pointed out that new topics emerge from doctors’ conferences and suggested that similar conferences are needed for those working in the field of acting.
