Vehicles Stranded for 90 Minutes on Baramati-Amarapur Road

PUNE: Traffic came to a complete standstill on Friday at Madanwadi Chauphula, located on the Baramati-Amarapur highway within Indapur Taluka. The regional transport infrastructure has been under immense pressure for the past four to five days due to the ongoing sugarcane crushing season, which has increased the movement of heavy tractors. Additionally, a massive influx of visitors heading to the Krishi Pradarshan (Agricultural Exhibition) in Baramati further congested the route. The situation turned critical on Friday due to an auspicious wedding date (Lagan Tithi), which brought a surge of private vehicles onto the road.

Commuters and Students Stranded in Kilometers-Long Queues

The traffic situation worsened significantly during the afternoon, with vehicles trapped in a deadlock for more than an hour and a half. This massive congestion caused severe hardship for local residents, long-distance travelers, and students returning from schools and colleges. With queues stretching for several kilometers on both sides of the intersection, even emergency vehicles, including ambulances, struggled to navigate through the gridlock.

Traffic Restored Following Police Intervention

Recognizing the severity of the jam, local citizens promptly alerted the Bhigwan Police and the Traffic Department. A police team arrived on the scene and initiated efforts to regulate the chaotic flow of vehicles. After nearly two hours of rigorous effort by the personnel, the bottleneck was cleared, and smooth traffic movement was restored by late evening.

Given the ongoing agricultural exhibition and the peak sugarcane harvest season, local residents have formally requested the authorities to deploy a permanent police presence at this intersection for the next few days to prevent further recurrences.
