Pune : Four Teams Qualify for All-India Inter-University Tournament The West Zone Inter-University Girls’ Hockey Tournament, jointly organized by Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) and Tikaram Jagannath College, Khadki, has reached its decisive stage. Savitribai Phule Pune University, Rabindranath Tagore University (Bhopal), ITM University (Gwalior), and Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University (Ajmer) have successfully secured their spots in the final round. By finishing in the top four, all these teams have officially qualified for the All India Inter-University Girls’ Hockey Competition.

Thrilling Victory for Pune University Over LNIPE Gwalior In a closely contested knockout match held at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Pimpri and the SNBP College Ground in Chikhali, Savitribai Phule Pune University defeated LNIPE Gwalior with a score of 3-2. The Pune team started aggressively, putting immediate pressure on Gwalior. Sanika Mane opened the scoring for Pune after receiving a precise pass from Diksha Shinde, allowing SPPU to maintain a 1-0 lead by halftime. In the second half, Sanika Mane struck again to extend the lead to 2-0. Although Vaishali Kawadiya scored for Gwalior in the 45th minute to make it 1-2, Tanushree Kadu fired back in the 50th minute to give Pune a 3-1 cushion. A late goal by Gwalior’s Pratima Gurjar in the 51st minute brought the score to 2-3, but Pune held on for the win.

Dominant Performances by Bhopal and Gwalior Teams Rabindranath Tagore University, Bhopal, displayed absolute dominance by thrashing Mumbai University with a 6-0 victory. Shruti A. and Bhumi Das were the stars of the match, each scoring two goals, while Karmanpreet Singh and Munmani Das contributed one goal each to complete the rout. Similarly, ITM University Gwalior secured an easy path forward by defeating Dr. BAMU Sambhaji Nagar 6-1. The Gwalior side established a massive 6-0 lead by halftime, with goals from Krishna Sharma, Ruby Rathore, Mitali Sharma, Sneha Patel, and a brace from Aanchal Sahu. Megha Tarte scored a consolation goal for Sambhaji Nagar in the 48th minute.

The final knockout phase results saw Savitribai Phule Pune University edge out LNIPE Gwalior 3-2. Rabindranath Tagore University Bhopal overwhelmed Mumbai University 6-0 after leading 5-0 at the break. ITM University Gwalior defeated Dr. BAMU Sambhaji Nagar 6-1, showing their strength early in the game. In the final fixture, Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer, advanced to the next stage following a walkover against Suresh Gyan Vihar University, Jaipur.
