SHIRUR: An ‘Akashdarshan’ (Stargazing) program was organized by the Department of Physics and B.Voc (Renewable Energy) at the premises of Chandmal Tarachand Bora College. Under this special initiative, citizens and students of Shirur enjoyed breathtaking views of the universe with the help of telescopes.

Fostering a Scientific Temperament

The program was presided over by the College Principal, Dr. K.C. Mohite, while Sanjay Deshpande, Administrative Officer of the Shirur Shikshan Prasarak Mandal, attended as the chief guest. Dr. Mohite stated that the primary objective of this initiative is to ignite curiosity about space science among students and citizens, develop a scientific outlook, and cultivate an interest in astronomy.

Participation of 500 Students

Approximately 450 to 500 students from 5 to 6 schools across Shirur city participated in this stargazing event. Experts from the renowned Pune-based institute IUCAA (Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics)—Tushar Purohit, Maharudra Mate, and Rupesh Labade—provided detailed information to the students about the Milky Way, planets, and stars.

Direct Observation through Telescopes

Following the information session, telescopes were set up on the college grounds, through which students and their parents observed planets and constellations up close. A large number of science enthusiasts from the city also attended to experience these celestial phenomena. The introductory speech was delivered by Coordinator Dr. D.H. Bobade, the session was moderated by Prof. Sunil Kawade, and Dr. Subhash Pandharkar expressed the vote of thanks.
