Awareness Program in Dorlewadi: Students Educated on Consumer Rights and Cyber Security

Baramati (Dorlewadi): In a proactive move to safeguard the younger generation against digital threats, an awareness campaign focusing on consumer rights and cyber fraud was successfully conducted at the New English School, Dorlewadi. The initiative, jointly organized by the Bhumiputra Social Foundation and the Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat, has received widespread acclaim from the local community.

The program was held to commemorate National Consumer Day and welcome the ‘Anand Yatra’ awareness march. Every year on December 24, these organizations conduct outreach activities across schools, colleges, and public spaces to promote consumer literacy. This year’s campaign kicked off in Dorlewadi with the participation of key figures, including Sanjiv Borate (President, Baramati Taluka Grahak Panchayat), Prashant Jagtap, and Tukaram Khatal (Headmaster), alongside a large gathering of teachers, parents, and students.

Focus on Cyber Safety and Legal Empowerment

Expert Guidance on Combating Fraud and Efficient Justice Systems

The core of the workshop focused on educating students about their fundamental rights as consumers, the dangers of misleading advertisements, and the critical precautions needed while using mobile devices and digital platforms. Experts emphasized that in today’s hyper-connected world, being a “smart consumer” requires a deep understanding of cyber security to prevent financial and personal data theft.

Ghanshyam Kelkar, Secretary of the Bhumiputra Social Foundation, and Dilawar Tamboli, Pune District Vice President of the Akhil Bharatiya Panchayat, led the technical sessions. They discussed how digital technology can be harnessed to make the judicial process more efficient and accessible for consumers seeking justice. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A where students cleared their doubts regarding online safety and consumer complaints.

Recognition of the District-Wide Awareness Padayatra

The event also served as a reception for the “Janajagruti Padayatra,” a walking tour organized by the Bhumiputra Social Foundation. The march has traveled through several talukas in the Pune district, including Bhor, Velha, Maval, Khed, Ambegaon, Junnar, Shirur, Daund, and Indapur, spreading the message of consumer empowerment. During the ceremony, march members Ghanshyam Kelkar and Professor Gyandev Sarvade were formally felicitated by the dignitaries for their dedication to social causes.
