PUNE: Due to heavy rainfall in the catchment area of the Hutatma Babu Genu Sagar Dimbhe Dam in Ambegaon taluka, the water reservoir level has been rising rapidly, reaching 82 percent capacity as of Friday evening. To ensure structural safety and manage the rising water levels, the Water Resources Department has issued a formal alert indicating that water could be discharged into the Ghod River basin through the spillway gates at any given moment.

Advisory for Riverbank Residents and Precautionary Measures

If the heavy downpours persist or intensify, the volume of water released into the riverbed will be increased in a phased manner. Consequently, authorities have urged citizens to completely avoid entering the riverbed for any reason. Farmers and residents along the riverbanks are advised to immediately move their agricultural pumps, livestock, vehicles, and other essential equipment to safer, elevated locations.

Local Administration Alert and Leadership Directives

Specific warnings have been extended to low-lying areas and villages along the Ghod River, including Dimbhe, Gohe, Kanase, Mahalunge Tarphe Ghoda, Shinoli, and Ghodegaon. Local gram panchayats and revenue department officials have been instructed to alert residents using loudspeakers, public announcements, and messaging systems. Former Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil has also appealed to the public to prioritize safety, strictly follow official administrative guidelines, and refrain from spreading or believing unverified rumors.
