Continuous rainfall in the tribal and hilly areas of Ambegaon taluka over the past few days has led to a steady rise in the water level of the Hutatma Babu Genu Sagar Dimbhe Dam. As a precautionary measure, the authorities increased the water discharge from the dam’s spillway starting at 10:30 AM on Friday. The spillway discharge was raised from the previous rate of 6,800 cusecs to 8,500 cusecs. Additionally, 550 cusecs of water is being released through the hydroelectric power station, while irrigation releases remain halted for now. This brings the total discharge from the dam to 9,050 cusecs, with 8,970 cusecs flowing into the Ghod River basin and 80 cusecs directed into the right canal.

The Water Resources Department indicated that discharge levels may be adjusted further depending on incoming water volume and reservoir levels. In light of the increased flow, citizens and farmers in villages along the banks of the Ghod River have been urged to avoid entering the riverbed, relocate their livestock and agricultural equipment to safer areas, and strictly follow official advisories. Dattatray Kokane, Deputy Engineer of the Water Resources Department for the Kukadi Project, stated that the water release was expanded as a safety step due to constant inflow into the reservoir. He advised riverside residents to stay alert, avoid the river channel, and adhere closely to all administrative guidelines.
