Pune : The Midnight Incident at Lingali A devastating incident occurred in the Lingali village area near Daund city, where a total of seventeen motorcycles, one car, and two bicycles were set on fire at an apartment complex. The shocking event took place at the Kalpataru Apartment around 1:00 AM on Sunday. Residents of the ‘B’ wing first noticed the blaze originating from the parking area, which quickly spread and caused significant damage to the building’s infrastructure. The heat was so intense that the ceiling plaster of the parking lot peeled off, and the adjacent tin sheds were severely scorched.
Residents Battle the Flames to Avert Major Disaster As soon as the fire was discovered, flat owners rushed to the spot and attempted to douse the flames using water. While their swift intervention managed to bring the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to the residential floors, most of the vehicles had already been reduced to skeletal remains. The residents, many of whom belong to middle-class families, are now facing a severe financial crisis. Many of these vehicles had been purchased through bank loans, and unfortunately, the insurance coverage for several of them had already expired.
Extent of Property Damage and Victims The fire resulted in the total destruction of a Tata Nano car belonging to Rakesh Patil. Among those who suffered the heaviest losses were Anup Dinesh Thorat, Dilip Kumar Chaudhary, Vishal Sansare, Sridevi Arvind Joshi, and Safia Hamid Tamboli, all of whom lost two motorcycles each. Other residents including Megha Vinod Bansode, Vinod Daulatrao Bansode, Ramesh Nana Mergal, Siddharam Oge, Asghar Sheikh, Ashwini Mahamuni, and Nilesh Shirke each lost one motorcycle in the inferno.
Police Investigation and Legal Action Following the incident, Hanif Hamid Tamboli filed an official complaint at the Daund Police Station. Based on this complaint, an FIR has been registered against unidentified individuals for arson. Police Officer Mahendra Gaikwad provided details regarding the registration of the case, and Sub-Inspector Avinash Gaikwad has been assigned to lead the ongoing investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the fire was a deliberate act of mischief by unknown suspects, and authorities are currently working to identify the perpetrators.
