Pune : Residents of the Mulshi Dam area can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Following persistent demands from local villagers, a new passenger launch service has been commissioned for the Mulshi-Waghwadi route. This comes after the District Planning Committee approved ₹1.40 crore for the purchase of a new vessel.

Addressing a Long-standing Issue
The previous launch service had been suspended for a long time due to frequent mechanical breakdowns of the aging boat. This forced residents to take a grueling 40 to 50-kilometer detour by road to reach their destinations. To make matters worse, the existing road conditions in the region are extremely poor, causing significant hardship for daily commuters.

Key Details of the Development:
Funding: ₹1.40 crore sanctioned through the District Planning Fund.

Key Advocates: Local residents followed up with Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, District Collector Suhas Diwase, and District Planning Officer Kiran Indalkar.

Official Confirmation: Former Pune District Planning Committee member Amit Kandhare confirmed that the funds were approved and the service has now officially commenced.

Impact on Local Communities
The restoration of this water transport route is a major boost for connectivity. It serves as a lifeline for school children, teachers, and workers from several villages, including:

Shirgaon, Waghwadi, and Vadgaon

Bhadas Khonda, Bhimnagar, and Limbarwadi

Vaduste, Vandre, and Bhorkas

Hirdi, Pimpri, Ahirwadi, Gothe, and Susale

By cutting down travel time and eliminating the need for long road detours, the new launch ensures safer and more efficient travel for thousands of dam-affected citizens.
